It is narrated from Sayyiduna Salamah bin al-Akwa' (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: We went with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to visit a man suffering from fever. I placed my hand on him and said: By Allah! I have never seen, as today, a man hotter (with fever) than him. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not tell you about those who will be in even more intense heat (punishment) than him on the Day of Resurrection? It is these two riders who are turning their backs and going away." He (peace and blessings be upon him) meant, at that time, two men from among his companions.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Technical note / Defect ('illah): (3) This addition is taken from the sources of the takhrij and is not in the manuscripts.
Grading: (4) Its chain is strong. Reference / Source: Muslim (2783) narrated it by way of al-Nadr bin Muhammad al-Yamami, from 'Ikrimah bin 'Ammar, with this chain. Note / Clarification: "Al-muqfiyayn" means: the two who turned away, going back with their backs turned. Note / Clarification: His saying "from among his Companions": he (peace and blessings be upon him) called the two of them this because they outwardly professed Islam and companionship, not because they were among those who attained the merit of (true) companionship. Al-Nawawi said this in "Sharh Muslim".
