Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): (3) In the manuscripts it is "ورقا" without the nun, which is an error; the correct form will come two hadiths later. "Wariqan" is a black mountain between al-'Arj and al-Ruwaythah, on the right-hand side of the traveller going from Madinah to Makkah.
Grading: (4) Its chain is hasan on account of 'Abd al-Rahman bin Ishaq, who is al-Qurashi al-Madani, and he is also called 'Abbad bin Ishaq.
Reference / Source: Ahmad 14/ (8345) narrated it from Rib'i bin Ibrahim, from 'Abd al-Rahman bin Ishaq, with this chain.
Reference / Source: It will come with the author (al-Hakim) at number (8976) by way of Sa'id bin Abi Hilal, from Sa'id al-Maqburi, from Abu Hurayrah as mawquf.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Sa'id bin Abi Hilal is more reliable and more precise than 'Abd al-Rahman bin Ishaq, yet the hadith is preserved from Abu Hurayrah as marfu'.
Reference / Source: Ahmad narrated it at 14/ (8410) and 16/ (10931) by way of 'Ata' bin Yasar; Muslim (2851), al-Tirmidhi (2579) and Ibn Hibban (7487) by way of Abu Hazim al-Ashja'i; al-Tirmidhi (2578) by way of Muhammad bin 'Ammar and Salih the freedman of al-Taw'amah; and Ibn Hibban (7488) by way of Humayd al-Muzani; all five of them from Abu Hurayrah, marfu' to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Some of them abridged it.
Details of the narration: In the narration of 'Ata' bin Yasar, and likewise in the narration of Abu Salih that follows with the author, the wording is: "The skin of the disbeliever is forty-two cubits (thick)", and this is the preserved wording. In the narration of Abu Hazim al-Ashja'i it reads: "The thickness of his skin is a journey of three (days)", and this is an error (of the narrator).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In fact, the journey of three days is (the size of) his seat in the Fire, as occurs in the hadith of each of Sa'id al-Maqburi, 'Ata' bin Yasar, Muhammad bin 'Ammar and Salih the freedman of al-Taw'amah.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On this topic there is also a narration from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, which will come at number (8985).
Note / Clarification: Al-Bayda': the name of a place near al-Rabadhah.
Note / Clarification: Al-Rabadhah: a place to the east of Madinah al-Munawwarah, about 170 km away.
Reference / Source: (1) Muslim narrated it, but not al-Bukhari, as has passed in the takhrij of the hadith.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Al-Bukhari (6551) and Muslim (2852) narrated from the hadith of Abu Hazim al-Ashja'i, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said: "Between the two shoulders of the disbeliever is a distance of three days' journey for a fast rider."
