It is narrated from Abd al-Rahman bin Shaybah; he said: We differed here about al-wurud (the "coming to" mentioned in the verse). One group said that no believer will enter it, and others said that they will all enter it, then Allah Almighty will save those who were pious. I met Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) and asked him about it, and he said: "They will all enter it, then Allah will save those who were pious." I said to him: We have differed about this in Basrah; one group says no believer will enter it, and others say all will enter it, then Allah will save the pious. On hearing this he pointed his two fingers to his ears and said: "May these two ears of mine become deaf if I did not hear the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: Al-wurud means entering. No righteous or wicked person will remain who does not enter it, but it (the Fire) will become coolness and safety for the believer just as it became for Ibrahim (peace be upon him), so much so that the Fire - or he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Hell - will be heard crying out because of its coolness. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then Allah will save those who were pious and leave the wrongdoers in it on their knees."
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: The text between the square brackets had dropped out of the manuscripts; we have supplied it from "Talkhis al-Dhahabi".
Note / Clarification: It is thus (ورقها) in manuscript (K), and that is correct, while in (Z), (B) and the "Talkhis" it is distorted into "برقها", and in manuscript (M) there is a blank in its place.
Grading: This chain is weak because of the "jahalah" (unknown status) of Massah al-Azdiyyah and the "idtirab" (inconsistency) of Kathir bin Ziyad in it. Reference / Source: Ahmad (22/14520) narrated it from Sulayman bin Harb, from Ghalib bin Sulayman, from Kathir bin Ziyad, from Abu Sumayyah, who said: "We disagreed here about the arrival (at Hell)..." Then he mentioned his meeting with Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him); in this narration he dropped "Abd al-Rahman bin Shaybah" (as an intermediary). Technical note / Defect ('illah): And this Abu Sumayyah is also "majhul" (unknown); Kathir bin Ziyad is alone in narrating from him.
