It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he learned of a hadith about retribution (qisas) from one of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), which he himself had not heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). So he bought a camel, fastened his saddle on it, travelled a month's journey and reached Egypt (or Syria), and met Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Unays (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: I have learned of a hadith from you which you heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), but I did not hear it concerning retribution. I feared that death might come to me before I heard it. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Unays (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "On the Day when the servants - or he said: the people - will be gathered naked, uncircumcised and buhman (empty-handed), having nothing with them, then Allah Almighty will call out to them in a voice that the one far away will hear just as the one near hears: I am the King, I am the Judge who recompenses. It is not fitting for any of the people of Paradise to enter Paradise while any of the people of Hell has a claim (of wrong) against him, until I make him give retribution for it; and it is not fitting for any of the people of Hell to enter Hell while any of the people of Paradise has a claim against him, until I make him give retribution for it, even for a slap." We said: How can that be, when we will come before Allah naked and empty-handed? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "(This retribution) will be through good deeds and bad deeds."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts the (name) is distorted into "سلمة".
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts the word is written "حديثًا" (in the accusative case), which is (grammatically) wrong.
Grading: In light of corroborating chains and supporting reports this chain is "hasan", because of al-Qasim bin Abd al-Wahid and (Abd Allah) bin 'Aqil. Muhammad bin Maslamah - although there is some softness (lin) in him - is "corroborated" (mutaba'). Reference / Source: Thus this hadith has already appeared with the author (al-Hakim) at number (3679) via Sa'id bin Mas'ud, from Yazid bin Harun. Reference / Source: Likewise Ahmad bin Hanbal narrated it in his "Musnad" (25/16042) from Yazid bin Harun with this same chain. Note / Clarification: See the rest of its referencing and the discussion of it there.
