حدثني أبو بكر محمد بن أحمد بن بالَوَيَه وأبو بكر أحمد بن جعفر ببغداد قالا: حدثنا عبد الله بن أحمد بن حَنبَل [حدثنا أَبي] (1) حدثنا أبو داود، حدثنا شُعْبة، عن خالدٍ الحذَاء قال: سمعت أبا عثمان النَّهْديَّ يُحدِّث، أنَّ النبي ﷺ قال: "يُرفع للرجل (2) الصحيفةُ يومَ القيامة حتى يُرَى أنه [ناجٍ] (3) فما تزالُ مظالمُ بني آدم تَتْبعُه حتى ما تبقى حسنةٌ، ويُزادُ عليه من سيِّئاتِهم". قال: فقلت له - أو قال: فقال له عاصم -: عمَّن يا أبا عثمان؟ فقال: عن سلمان وسعدٍ وابن مسعود، حتى عدَّ ستةً أو سبعةً من أصحاب رسول الله ﷺ. قال شعبةُ: فسألتُ عاصمًا عن هذا الحديث، فحدَّثَنيه عن أبي عثمان عن سلمان. وأخبرني عثمان بن غياث: أنه سمع أبا عثمانَ يُحدِّث بهذا عن سلمانَ وأصحابِ رسول الله ﷺ (4)
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from six or seven Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), including Sayyiduna Salman al-Farisi, Sayyiduna Sa'd and Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with them), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "On the Day of Resurrection a man's record of deeds will be presented, until he thinks that he has been saved. But then the rights of people and the wrongs done to them will pursue him until not a single good deed of his remains, and their sins will be added to his account."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

(1) هذه زيادة لم ترد في النسخ الخطية ولا بدَّ منها، فإنَّ عبد الله بن أحمد لم يدرك أبا داود - وهو سليمان ابن داود الطيالسي - بين وفاتيهما ما يقرب من تسعين سنة، ويغلب على ظننا أنَّ الواسطة بينهما أحمد بن حنبل.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This addition was not in the manuscripts, but it is indispensable, because Abd Allah bin Ahmad did not meet Abu Dawud - who is Sulayman bin Dawud al-Tayalisi; there are about ninety years between their deaths. Our strong assumption is that the intermediary between them is "Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal".
(2) في النسخ الخطية: الرجل، والصواب: للرجل، كما سلف برقم (2299).
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts it is "الرجل", while the correct reading is "للرجل", as appeared earlier at number (2299).
(3) لفظ "ناج" سقط من النسخ الخطية هنا، وثبت فيما سلف، وقوله: "حتى يرى أنه" سقط من (ز) و (ب) أيضًا، وأثبتناه من (ك) و (م).
Note / Clarification: The word "ناج" (saved) has dropped out of the manuscripts here, while it was present in the earlier places. And the words "حتى يرى أنه" have also dropped out of (Z) and (B); we have restored them from (K) and (M).
(4) إسناده صحيح. وقد سلف عند المصنف برقم (2299) من طريق إسحاق بن منصور عن أبي داود الطيالسي.
Grading: Its chain is sahih.
