Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8891

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "How can I be at ease and content when the angel of the Trumpet has taken (the Trumpet) into his mouth, inclined his ears (towards the divine command) and bowed his forehead, waiting for when he will be commanded to blow the Trumpet!" The Muslims said: O Messenger of Allah! What should we say? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Say: 'Hasbunallahu wa ni'mal-wakil, 'ala Allahi tawakkalna' (Allah is sufficient for us and He is the best Disposer of affairs; in Allah we have put our trust)."

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This hadith is sahih, if Allah wills, although this particular chain is weak on account of 'Atiyyah al-'Awfi, as has passed; but it is corroborated in the narration that follows.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Identification of the narrators: "al-Humaydi" is 'Abdullah bin al-Zubayr bin 'Isa al-Makki; "Sufyan" is Sufyan bin 'Uyaynah; "Mutarrif" is Ibn Tarif al-Harithi; and "Abu Sa'id" is Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him).
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ahmad (17 / 11039) and al-Tirmidhi (3243) via Sufyan bin 'Uyaynah with this chain. Al-Tirmidhi said: This hadith is hasan.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ahmad (18 / 11696) via al-A'mash and by al-Tirmidhi (2431) via Khalid bin Tahman Abu al-'Ala', and both of them narrate it likewise from 'Atiyyah. Al-Tirmidhi declared this one hasan as well.
Reference / Source: Hajjaj bin Artah narrated it in abridged form from 'Atiyyah, as in Ibn Majah (4273); in it he mentioned "two" keepers of the horn (trumpet), not one.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This wording (the mention of two) is "munkar", and Hajjaj is a narrator who made many mistakes.
Details of the narration: The mention of "two" is also narrated from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri by another chain, which will come later under number (8893), but that chain is "wahin" (extremely weak).
Reference / Source: The mention of their being "two" is also in the narration of Abu Murayyah from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), or from him via 'Abdullah bin 'Amr from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); Ahmad recorded it (11 / 6804).
Grading: Its chain is weak, because the status of "Abu Murayyah" is unknown (majhul al-hal), and there is inconsistency in whether this narration is given as connected (mawsul) or as mursal.
