Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8849

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever of you lives to see Isa ibn Maryam (peace be upon him) should convey my greeting of salam to him."
I think that this narrator Isma'il is Isma'il bin Ayyash, and the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not accept him as evidence.

Hadith Grading
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts the name was corrupted into 'Mahmud'; the correction is from "Ithaf al-Maharah" (1271).

Grading: If this chain is free of the tadlis of Muhammad bin Musaffa al-Himsi, it is 'hasan'; he is saduq (truthful) but known for 'tadlis al-taswiyah'.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Isma'il here is 'Isma'il Ibn 'Ulayyah', not 'Isma'il bin 'Ayyash' as the author (al-Hakim) supposed. For no narration at all of Ibn 'Ayyash from Ayyub (who is Ibn Abi Tamimah al-Sakhtiyani) is known, whereas Ibn 'Ulayyah's narration from Ayyub is famous and well known to the authors of the Six Books and others. Abu Qilabah is 'Abd Allah bin Zayd al-Jarmi.
Important point: We have not found this hadith with anyone other than the author.
