Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8845

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mihjan bin al-Adra' (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed the people and said three times: "The Day of Deliverance, and what is the Day of Deliverance?" It was said: O Messenger of Allah! What is meant by the Day of Deliverance? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Dajjal will come and climb Mount Uhud, then he will look down towards Madinah and say to his companions: Do you see this white palace? This is the mosque of Ahmad (peace and blessings be upon him). Then he will advance towards Madinah, and at each of its routes there will be an angel with a drawn sword standing guard. So he will pitch his camp in the salt marsh of al-Juruf. Then Madinah will be shaken by three tremors, as a result of which every hypocrite man and woman and every sinful man and woman will go out to the Dajjal. Thus Madinah will be purified (of the wicked), and that is the Day of Deliverance."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits

Grading: This hadith is 'sahih li-ghayrihi', except for the words: "He (the Dajjal) will say to his companions: Do you see this white palace? This is the mosque of Ahmad (peace and blessings be upon him)." These words came only in this hadith of Mihjan.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): All the narrators of this chain are thiqah (trustworthy), except that 'Abd Allah bin Shaqiq, in some of his narrations, inserted 'Raja' bin Abi Raja'' as an intermediary between himself and Mihjan bin al-Adra', as was explained under hadith no. (8520). 'Abd Allah bin Shaqiq alone narrates from Raja'. Nevertheless, 'Abd Allah's hearing directly from Mihjan cannot be denied, since he heard from people who died earlier than Mihjan, and moreover the two of them were from the same town (both Basrans).
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad [31/(18975)], Hanbal bin Ishaq in "al-Fitan" (13), Ibn Qani' in "Mu'jam al-Sahabah" [3/66] and al-Mustaghfiri in "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" (332) narrated it by routes from Hammad bin Salamah, with this same chain.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Apart from the story of the white palace, the rest of the hadith is supported by the hadith of Jabir in Musnad Ahmad [22/(14112)], and all its narrators are thiqah (trustworthy).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It is also supported by the hadith of Anas in Musnad Ahmad [20/(12986)], al-Bukhari (1881) and Muslim (2943).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Likewise a long hadith of Abu Umamah in Ibn Majah (4077) supports this meaning.
Note / Clarification: 'sabakhah' means salty, saline ground. 'al-Juruf' is the name of a place in Madinah towards Syria.
