It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah bin al-Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned the Dajjal and gave a description of him that I (the narrator) do not remember. The Companions said: O Messenger of Allah! Will the state of our hearts on that day be the same as it is today? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Rather, it will be even better than that."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Grading: Its chain is weak. Technical note / Defect ('illah): The reason for this weakness is that 'Abd Allah bin Suraqah is alone in this narration, and its meaning contradicts other hadiths, as will come. The scholars differ over the identity of 'Abd Allah bin Suraqah: some made him one and the same person, namely al-'Adawi the Companion, such as Ibn Abi 'Asim in "al-Ahad wa al-Mathani" (233), and Ya'qub bin Shaybah and Ibn 'Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" [29/12-13], and they cited this hadith under him. Others made him a different person, such as al-'Ijli and Ibn Hibban, both in "al-Thiqat", and Imam al-Bukhari in "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" [5/97]; after citing this hadith for him al-Bukhari said: "It is not known that 'Abd Allah bin Suraqah heard from Abu 'Ubaydah." Al-'Uqayli in "al-Du'afa'" and Ibn 'Adi in "al-Kamil" followed al-Bukhari. The two hafizes al-Mizzi and Ibn Hajar also distinguished between the two, identifying the second as 'al-Azdi', and they mentioned no narrator from him other than 'Abd Allah bin Shaqiq al-'Uqayli. Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad [3/(1692)] narrated it from Muhammad bin Ja'far, with this same chain. See the next number for more. Important point: The meaning of this hadith is that in that era people in general will be in their best state of goodness and faith. This meaning contradicts the earlier hadith of Jabir, no. (8827), which says that the Dajjal will come out when religion has become weak and knowledge is receding, and likewise the hadith of Abu Hurayrah [Ibn Hibban (6812)], which says that he will come out at a time of disagreement and division among people. Those two narrations have sounder chains than this hadith, and Allah knows best.
