Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8815

It is narrated from Abu al-Siddiq that he said: When al-Hajjaj (bin Yusuf) overcame Sayyiduna Ibn al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both), martyred him and desecrated his body, he went to the mother of Sayyiduna Abdullah, Sayyidah Asma' bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them both). She said: "How do you ask permission to see me when you have killed my son?!" Al-Hajjaj said: "Your son deviated in the Sanctuary of Allah, so I killed him as a disobedient heretic, until Allah made him taste a painful punishment," and he said a great deal about him. She said: "You have lied, O enemy of Allah and enemy of the Muslims! By Allah, you killed him while he was one who fasted much, stood in prayer at night, was dutiful to his parents and was a guardian of this religion. If you have ruined his world, he has ruined your Hereafter. And indeed the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) narrated this hadith to us: 'Two great liars (kadhdhab) will emerge from the tribe of Thaqif; the second of them will be worse than the first, and he will be the destroyer (mubir, extremely bloodthirsty and ruinous).' And O Hajjaj, that is none other than you."
