أخبرَناهُ الشيخ أبو بكر بن إسحاق، أخبرنا محمد بن غالب، حدثنا أبو عُمر (2) الحَوْضي وعَمْرو (3) بن مرزوق قالا: حدثنا شُعبة، عن حُصَين؛ فذكر الحديث بنحوه، وزاد فيه: فقال: الحجَّاج: صَدَقَ رسول الله ﷺ وَصَدَقتِ، أنا المُبيرُ؛ أُبِيرُ المنافقين (1).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Husayn that he mentioned a similar hadith and added in it: Then al-Hajjaj said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) spoke the truth and you have spoken the truth. I am the 'mubir' (the destroyer); I destroy the hypocrites."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(2) تحرَّف في النسخ الخطية إلى: عمرو، بزيادة واو.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts this has been corrupted into "'Amr", with an added waw.
(3) في (ز) و (ك) و (م): عمر، والمثبت من (ب)، وهو الصواب. وهو حفص بن عمر بن الحارث.
Note / Clarification: In (Z), (K) and (M) it is "'Umar", while what we have established is from (B), and it is correct. He is Hafs bin 'Umar bin al-Harith.
(1) رجاله ثقات، ولم نقف عليه من هذا الطريق عند غير المصنف، ولم يبيِّن عمّن رواه حصينٌ - وهو ابن عبد الرحمن السلمي - وهو من صغار التابعين.
Grading: Its narrators are trustworthy, but we have not found it through this route with anyone other than the author (al-Hakim).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): And Husayn (who is Ibn 'Abd al-Rahman al-Sulami, one of the younger Followers) did not make clear from whom he narrated it.
