Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8803

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The emergence of the Beast of the Earth (Dabbat al-Ard) will be after the rising of the sun from its place of setting. When it emerges, it will kill Iblis while he is in prostration. After that, the believers will live on earth in ease and comfort for forty years; whatever they wish for will be given to them and they will find it. There will be neither oppression nor injustice, and all things will have submitted to the Lord of the Worlds, willingly or unwillingly, to the extent that even the beasts of prey and the birds will be subdued (even if unwillingly), so much so that no beast of prey will harm any animal or bird. A child will be born to a believer, and he will not die without completing forty years after the emergence of the Beast of the Earth. Then death will return among them, and they will remain in that state for as long as Allah wills. Then death will come swiftly among the believers until no believer remains. Then the disbelievers will say: We used to be in awe of the believers, and now none of them remains, and now no repentance will be accepted from us either; so what is wrong with us that we should not commit indecency with one another like animals?! So they will fall upon one another in the roads like cattle (committing indecency). Then one of them will commit indecency with his mother, sister and daughter in the middle of the road; when one finishes and gets up, another will mount her, and no one will object to it or stop it. On that day the best of them will be the one who says: If you had done this away from the road, it would have been better. They will remain in this state until none of the offspring born of marriage remains, and all over the face of the earth only the illegitimate offspring will remain. They will remain in this state for as long as Allah wills. Then Allah Almighty will make the wombs of women barren for thirty years; no woman will give birth and there will be no child on earth. All of them will be the worst of people and the offspring of fornication, and it is upon them that the Hour will be established."
The hadith of Muhammad bin Thabit bin Aslam al-Bunani is very precious among the narrations of the people of Basrah and the children of the Tabi'un; however, Abd al-Wahhab bin Husayn is unknown (majhul).

Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts this word has been corrupted into "Hunayn"; the correction is from "Talkhis al-Dhahabi" and "Ithaf al-Maharah" (12514).

Note / Clarification: It is like this in "al-Talkhis", while in the manuscripts it is "قلت" (I said)! And the words "فإذا خرجت" are an addition from the printed edition and Nu'aym bin Hammad's "al-Fitan"; they are not in the manuscripts.

Grading: Its chain is extremely weak (wahin).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ibn Lahi'ah had a poor memory (sayyi' al-hifz); 'Abd al-Wahhab bin Husayn is not known, and he is unknown (majhul), as the author (al-Hakim) said; Muhammad bin Thabit (who is Ibn Aslam al-Bunani) is weak, and so is al-Harith (who is Ibn 'Abdullah al-A'war al-Hamdani). Al-Dhahabi described this report as fabricated (mawdu').
Reference / Source: It is in Nu'aym bin Hammad's "al-Fitan" (1857): he said: Abu 'Umar narrated to us from Ibn Lahi'ah; and this is correct, for Nu'aym narrates from 'Abdullah bin Lahi'ah only through an intermediary.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The intermediary between them in this report is Abu 'Umar (also said: Abu 'Amr), who is Ashhal bin Hatim al-Basri, and he is not that strong.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: As for the Hour being established upon the worst of people, that is authentically established from the hadith of Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) with Muslim in his "Sahih" (2949) and others. See also what passed with the author at number (8721).
