Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8793

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "In the month of Ramadan there will be a mighty blast that will wake the sleeper and terrify the one who is awake. Then in Shawwal a group will appear. Then in Dhu al-Hijjah there will be killing, plunder and chaos. Then in Muharram the sanctities will be violated. Then in Safar there will be deaths. Then in Rabi' al-Awwal and Rabi' al-Akhir the tribes will quarrel among themselves. Then between Jumada and Rajab there will be most astonishing events. Then at that time (economic conditions will be such that) a she-camel laden with a saddle will be better than a fortress or village yielding a profit of one hundred thousand (dirhams or dinars)."
The two Shaykhs used all the narrators of this hadith as evidence except Maslamah bin Ali al-Khushani. This hadith is gharib (unusual) in its text, and Maslamah is moreover among those whose narration cannot establish proof.

Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Textual verification: In the manuscripts (the name) has been corrupted into "Salamah".

Textual verification: In the manuscripts it is "بمعمعة" (with an added ba'), whereas without the ba' (معمعة) is more fitting.

Textual and lexical verification: We have established the text from al-Dhahabi's "Talkhis"; in some of our manuscripts it is "فقل" and in some "تقل", whereas the correct reading is what is in "al-Talkhis" (i.e. "taghill"). "Taghill" is from "ghallah", i.e. the fruits and crops that the land produces. And "al-daskarah" means the village.

Grading: Its chain is ruined (talif). Al-Dhahabi said in his "Talkhis": "This is fabricated (mawdu'), and Maslamah is discarded and abandoned (matruk)." And in the biography of Maslamah bin 'Ali in "al-Mizan" he said: "This is munkar, and Maslamah did not meet Qatadah."
Reference and defect: The hadith is in Nu'aym bin Hammad's "al-Fitan" at number (628). After it he pointed out the break in it, saying: "Between Maslamah and Qatadah there is a man."
Reference: Through Nu'aym, Abu Nu'aym al-Asbahani recorded it in "Akhbar Asbahan" (2/199), and al-Shajari in "al-Amali al-Khamisiyyah" (2/27).
Reference and analysis: Ibn al-Jawzi mentioned it in "al-Mawdu'at" (3/461), and he mentioned other reports with this meaning in "the chapter on the appearance of signs in the months", all of which are not authentic; among them is another route from Abu Hurayrah with this meaning.
Lexical analysis: "Al-naqah al-muqtabah": the she-camel on which the "qatab" has been fastened, the "qatab" being a saddle the size of her hump.
