It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Hour will not be established until saying 'Allah, Allah' has ceased on the earth; and until a woman passes by a piece of a sandal and says (in amazement on seeing it): 'At one time this too had a man (as its owner)'; and until one man becomes the guardian of fifty women; and until the sky rains abundantly but the earth grows nothing."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is sahih.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it in parts (21/13833 and 14047) by the route of 'Affan bin Muslim, from Hammad bin Salamah, with this same chain. His wording is: "Until 'La ilaha illa Allah' is not said on the earth".
Note / Clarification: This hadith will come in full later at no. (8725) by the route of 'Abd al-Samad bin 'Abd al-Warith, from Hammad.
Reference / Source: Its first part was narrated by Imam Ahmad (21/13729) from Aswad bin 'Amir, and by Muslim (148) and Ibn Hibban (6849) by the route of 'Affan bin Muslim; both of them report it from Hammad bin Salamah with this same chain, with the same wording as the author's.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It was also narrated by Imam Ahmad (20/12660), Muslim (148) and Ibn Hibban (6848) by the route of Ma'mar, from Thabit al-Bunani. Ibn Hibban's wording is like the narration of 'Affan in Ahmad.
Reference / Source: The story of there being one "qayyim" (caretaker) for fifty women is narrated in these books by the route of Qatadah, from Anas bin Malik: Ahmad (19/11944), al-Bukhari (81, 5231, 5577, 6808), Muslim (2671/9), Ibn Majah (4045), al-Tirmidhi (2205), al-Nasa'i (5875) and Ibn Hibban (6768).
Note / Clarification: The last part of this hadith, about the sky raining and the earth not growing anything, will come later in the author's work at no. (8780) by the route of Mu'adh bin Harmalah, from Anas.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A shahid for the story of the woman passing by the sandal is the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) found in Musnad Ahmad (14/8437), except that in it he made the incident specific to the tribe of Quraysh.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A shahid for the story of one "qayyim" (caretaker) for a group of women is the hadith of Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) in al-Bukhari (1414) and Muslim (1012). In this narration forty women are mentioned instead of fifty.
Technical note: This difference indicates that the number here is meant figuratively to express "abundance", not an actual count. And Allah knows best.
Note / Clarification: "Al-qayyim" means the man who is responsible for looking after these women (wives and female relatives) and managing their affairs.
