Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8721

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The Hour will not be established until 'Allah, Allah' is no longer said on the earth."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it. However, Imam Muslim (may Allah have mercy on him) alone recorded the hadith of Shu'bah from Abu Ishaq with these words: "The Hour will be established only upon the worst of people."

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Muhammad bin Abi Safwan al-Thaqafi is not a very well-known narrator; Ibn Hibban mentioned him in "al-Thiqat" (9/114). He is alone in narrating this particular wording, and no one other than the author (al-Hakim) has narrated it by his route. In it he contradicted the imam of the people of hadith, Ahmad bin Hanbal.
Grading: For Imam Ahmad narrated it in "al-Musnad" (6/3735) from Bahz bin Asad with this same chain in these words: "The Hour will not be established except upon the worst of people." And this (wording) is the correct one.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Likewise, 'Abd al-Rahman bin Mahdi narrated it from Shu'bah, and this is found in Musnad Ahmad (7/4144), Muslim (2949) and Ibn Hibban (6850).
Note / Clarification: As for the wording that the author mentioned here, it is in the hadith of Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) which comes in the author's work one hadith later.
