Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8720

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that he came to al-Walid bin Yazid, and al-Walid asked him: What did you hear the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say about the Hour? He said: I heard him (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "You and the Hour are like these two fingers (in closeness)."
The two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) agreed on recording this hadith through the chains of Shu'bah from Qatadah and Abu al-Tayyah.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts there is a distortion (error) here and the name is written as "'Abd Allah" (without the diminutive), whereas the correct name is "Isma'il bin 'Ubayd Allah bin Abi al-Muhajir".

Grading: Its chain is sahih.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it (21/13336) by the route of Abu al-Mughirah, from 'Abd al-Quddus bin al-Hajjaj, from al-Awza'i, with this same chain.
Technical note: In this narration it says: "Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) came to al-Walid bin 'Abd al-Malik", and this is correct. What occurs in the author's (al-Hakim's) narration (al-Walid bin Yazid) is a mistake, because at the time of the death of Anas bin Malik, al-Walid bin Yazid was only four or five years old.

Reference / Source: This hadith is found in al-Bukhari (no. 6504) and Muslim (no. 2951), but in these narrations there is no mention of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) coming to al-Walid.
Reference / Source: It was also narrated by the same route by Imam Ahmad (21/13319), al-Tirmidhi (2214) and Ibn Hibban (6640).
Note / Clarification: However, Imam al-Tirmidhi did not mention Abu al-Tayyah in it. See the rest of its takhrij in "al-Musnad".
