Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8666

It is narrated from Muhammad bin Sirin (may Allah have mercy on him) that when the Day of al-Jara'ah came, Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) said: By Allah, blood will surely be shed. A man said: Never, by Allah! Jundub said: I said: Yes indeed, by Allah! The man said: Never, by Allah! It is a hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) which he narrated to me. Jundub said: I said: I see you today as a bad companion; you hear me narrating, and you yourself heard it from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), yet you do not stop me (from my error)?! He said: What is the matter with you, and why this anger! Jundub said: Then I turned to him and began asking him, and it turned out that he was Sayyiduna Hudhayfah bin al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him).
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Grading: Its chain is "sahih". It is a narration of Muhammad bin Sirin from Jundub (Ibn 'Abd Allah al-Bajali, a Companion), from Hudhayfah bin al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with them both). Abu 'Awn is "'Abd Allah bin 'Awn bin Artaban".
Reference / Source: Ahmad (38/ 23388) and Muslim (2893) narrated it via two routes from 'Abd Allah bin 'Awn with this same chain.
Note / Clarification: "Al-Jara'ah" (with fathah on the jim and the ra'; it is also pronounced with a sukun on the ra', but the fathah is better known): a place near al-Kufah. See the story of "the Day of al-Jara'ah" with the author earlier at no. (2701).
