It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to us: "I warn you of seven trials that will occur after me: a trial that will arise from Madinah, a trial in Makkah, a trial that will come from Yemen, a trial that will come from Sham, a trial that will come from the east, a trial that will come from the west, and a trial that will arise from the heart of Sham, and that is the trial of the Sufyani." Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Among you will be those who will witness the beginning of these trials, and among this Ummah will be those who will witness their end." Al-Walid bin Ayyash (the narrator) said: The trial of Madinah was from the side of Talhah and al-Zubayr, the trial of Makkah was the trial of Abdullah bin al-Zubayr, the trial of Sham was from the side of Banu Umayyah, and the trial of the east was from the side of these people.
This hadith has an authentic (sahih) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This hadith is "wahin" (extremely weak), and it is among the "awabid" (strange, odd reports) of Nu'aym, as al-Dhahabi said in "al-Talkhis". Technical note / Defect ('illah): Yahya bin Sa'id is "al-'Attar", who is weak, and we did not find any biography for his shaykh "al-Walid bin 'Ayyash" so that his condition could be known. Ibrahim is "Ibrahim bin Yazid al-Nakha'i" and 'Alqamah is "Ibn Qays al-Nakha'i". Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the author's chain there is a "wahm" (error) from the narrators below Nu'aym bin Hammad. For this hadith is narrated in Nu'aym's own book "al-Fitan" (87) from Yahya bin Sa'id al-'Attar thus: "Hajjaj (a man from among us) narrated to us, from al-Walid bin 'Ayyash …". This makes the defect clear, because this Hajjaj is also unknown like al-Walid bin 'Ayyash, and between al-Walid and Ibn Mas'ud there is "i'dal" (a severe break of two or more narrators); so this chain is "saqit" (worthless).
