حدثنا محمد، حدثنا بحر، حدثنا ابن وهب، أخبرني معاوية بن صالح، عن أبي الزاهرية، عن جُبير بن نُفَير، عن أبي الدرداء قال: إذا خُيِّرتُم بين الأَرَضِينَ فلا تختاروا إرمينية، فإنَّ فيها قطعةً من عذاب الله (3).

Sayyiduna Jubayr bin Nufayr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "If you are given a choice between different lands (as to where to settle), do not choose Armenia, for in it there is a portion of Allah's punishment."

وأخرجه مبيَّنًا ابن أبي شيبة 5/ 326 (19798 - عوامة) عن عيسى بن يونس، عن الأوزاعي، عن حسان بن عطية، عن أبي الدرداء قال: إذا عُرض عليكم الغزو فلا تختاروا إرمينية، فإنّ بها عذابًا من عذاب الله؛ القُرّ. ورجاله ثقات إلّا أنه منقطع، حسان بن عطية لم يدرك أبا الدرداء.
Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Shaybah (5/ 326 - no. 19798, 'Awwamah) narrated it explicitly via 'Isa bin Yunus, from al-Awza'i, from Hassan bin 'Atiyyah, from Abu al-Darda', that he said: "When military expeditions are offered to you, do not choose Arminiyah (Armenia), for in it is one of the punishments of Allah: severe cold (al-qurr)."
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Its narrators are trustworthy, but it is "munqati'" (broken), because Hassan bin 'Atiyyah did not live in the time of Abu al-Darda'.
والقُرُّ: البرد الشديد، وقد تحرَّف في الطبعة الهندية "من مصنف ابن أبي شيبة" إلى: القبر.
Note / Clarification: "Al-qurr" means severe cold. In the Indian printed edition of "Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah" this word was mistakenly printed as "al-qabr" (the grave).
