(3). It is narrated from Sa'id bin al-Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: "The first tribulation (the martyrdom of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him)) broke out and it left none of those who had taken part in Badr. Then the second tribulation (the incident of al-Harrah) took place and it left none of those who had taken part in al-Hudaybiyah (alive). And my opinion is that if a third tribulation breaks out, it will end in a state where no strength or understanding will remain among the people."

Grading: Its chain is sahih. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ishaq is "Ibn Ibrahim bin Abbad al-Dabari", and Yahya bin Sa'id is "al-Ansari". Reference / Source: This report is in "Jami' Ma'mar" under number (20739). Al-Bukhari narrated it in mu'allaq form in his "Sahih" after (4024); and it was narrated by Umar bin Shabbah in "Tarikh al-Madinah" 4/ 1274, by Abu Nu'aym in "al-Mustakhraj ala al-Bukhari" (as in "Fath al-Bari" 12/ 98), and by al-Daraqutni in "Ghara'ib Malik" (as also in "al-Fath"), via several routes from Yahya bin Sa'id al-Ansari, from Sa'id bin al-Musayyab. 14/ 396. Note / Clarification: "Al-tabakh" means good and benefit. It is said "fulan la tabakha lahu", meaning he has no intelligence. Al-Baghawi said this in "Sharh al-Sunnah" 14/ 396. Note / Clarification: The first fitnah refers to the killing of the Commander of the Believers Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), and the second refers to "the Battle of al-Harrah", as is made clear in sources other than the author (al-Hakim).
