It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he was asked: O Abu Abdullah! When those who pray (the Muslims) fight one another, what do you command us to do? He said: "I command you to seek out the furthest (innermost) corner of your house and crouch down there. Then if someone forces his way in to you, say to him (like the righteous son of Adam (peace be upon him)): 'Take upon yourself my sin and your sin.' Thus you will be like that (righteous) son of Adam."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but the two Shaykhs did not record it in their books.

Grading: Its chain is munqati'. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Because Rib'i bin Hirash did not hear it from Hudhayfah directly; rather he heard it from an unnamed man who was present at Hudhayfah's funeral, as is made clear in the narrations of Shu'bah and Shayban al-Nahwi from Mansur bin al-Mu'tamir, both of which are in Ahmad's "al-Musnad" 38/ (23307) and (23335). So the chain has weakness because the narrator from Hudhayfah is unnamed. Technical note / Defect ('illah): As for this narration of Sufyan (who is Sufyan al-Thawri) without an intermediary between Rib'i and Hudhayfah, Sufyan bin Uyaynah corroborated him in it, with Nu'aym bin Hammad in "al-Fitan" (350) and with al-Dulabi in "al-Kuna wa al-Asma'" (426). General principle: But the principle is that the narration of one who clarified and detailed the chain (mentioning the intermediary) takes precedence over the narration of one who summarised and abridged it (leaving out the intermediary). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: However, its meaning is sound, for it has come as marfu' from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the hadith of Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), which has passed with the author (al-Hakim) under number (2698), and its chain is sahih.
