حدثنا أبو العباس محمد بن يعقوب، حدثنا محمد بن إسحاق الصَّغَاني، حدثنا (2) أبو عامر العَقَديُّ، حدثنا أفلحُ بن سعيد، شيخٌ من أهل قُباءٍ، حدثني عبد الله بن رافع مولى أمِّ سَلَمة قال: سمعتُ أبا هريرة يقول: سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: "إن طالت بك مدّةٌ يُوشِكُ أن تَرَى قومًا يَغدُون في سَخَطِ الله، ويَروحون في لعنتِه، في أيديهم مثلُ أذنابِ البقر" (3).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "If your life is prolonged, you will soon see people who will begin their mornings in the displeasure of Allah and their evenings in His curse; in their hands will be (whips) like the tails of cattle."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain on the condition of the two Shaykhs, but they did not record it.

(2) من أول الإسناد إلى هنا سقط من (ز) و (ب)، واستدركناه من (ك) و (م).
Note / Clarification: The portion from the beginning of the chain up to here had dropped out of manuscripts (Z) and (B), and we have restored it from (K) and (M).
(3) صحيح لغيره، وهذا إسناد قوي من أجل أفلح بن سعيد. أبو عامر العقدي: هو عبد الملك بن عمرو.
Grading: This hadith is "sahih li-ghayrihi", and this chain is strong because of Aflah bin Sa'id.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): "Abu Amir al-Aqadi" is Abd al-Malik bin Amr.
وأخرجه أحمد 13 / (8073) و (8293)، ومسلم (2857) (54) من طرق عن أبي عامر العقدي، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (13/8073, 8293) and Muslim (2857/54) recorded it through various routes from Abu Amir al-Aqadi with this same chain.
وأخرجه مسلم (2857) (53) من طريق زيد بن الحباب، عن أفلح بن سعيد، به. فاستدراك الحاكم له ذهولٌ منه ﵀.
Reference / Source: Muslim (2857/53) (also) recorded it by way of Zayd bin al-Hubab, from Aflah bin Sa'id.
Note / Clarification: Hence al-Hakim's including it as a supplement (istidrak) is an oversight on his part.
وفي الباب عن أبي أمامة، سيأتي برقم (8414).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On this topic there is also a narration of Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him), which will come at number (8414).
قوله: "يغدون" أي: يُصبِحون، و "يروحون" أي: يُمسُون.
General principle: "Yaghduna" means: they enter upon the morning, and "yaruhuna" means: they enter upon the evening.
وقوله: "مثل أذناب البقر" يريد السِّياط.
General principle: "Mithl adhnab al-baqar" (like the tails of cattle) means whips (lashes).
