Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8539

It is narrated from Murrah al-Bahzi (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Tribulations will appear on the earth like the horns of cattle (pointed and entangled)." Meanwhile a man passed by with his head covered, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This man will be on the truth on that day." I got up and went to him, took hold of his garment and said: O Messenger of Allah! Is this the man? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, this is he." I looked, and it was Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him).
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In the handwritten manuscripts this is distorted into "حكيم".

Grading: This hadith (text) is sahih, but this chain is weak because of Sa'id bin Hubayrah.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Regarding Sa'id bin Hubayrah, Abu Hatim said: "He is not strong", and Ibn Hibban accused him; however, he has a mutaba'ah (corroboration). "Muhammad bin Sulaym" (Abu Hilal al-Rasibi) is hasan in hadith except in his narration from Qatadah, which has been criticised. And in this chain he has dropped the intermediary between "Abdullah bin Shaqiq" and "Murrah al-Bahzi".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): "Murrah al-Bahzi": he is Ibn Ka'b, and it has been said that he is Ka'b bin Murrah.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (33/20352) recorded it from Bahz bin Asad and Abd al-Samad bin Abd al-Warith, from Abu Hilal Muhammad bin Sulaym, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (20353, 20372) and Ibn Hibban (6914) recorded it by way of Abu Usamah, from Kahmas bin al-Hasan (who is thiqah), from Abdullah bin Shaqiq, from Harami bin al-Harith and Usamah bin Khuraym, from Murrah al-Bahzi.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): No one other than Abdullah bin Shaqiq narrated from Harami and Usamah, and Ibn Hibban mentioned both of them in "al-Thiqat".
Note / Clarification: This hadith has already passed with a sahih chain with the author (al-Hakim) at number (4602).
