Amr bin Wabisah al-Asadi narrates from his father, who said: I was in my house in Kufah when suddenly a voice came at the door of the house: "Peace be upon you, may I come in?" I said: "And upon you be peace, come in." When he entered, I saw that it was Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him). I said: "O Abu Abd al-Rahman! What time is this for a visit?!" and it was the very middle of the day. He said: "The day was growing very long and heavy on me, so I thought I would go and talk with someone." Then he began narrating to me the hadiths of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and I to him. He began to recount and said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Soon there will be a tribulation in which the one sleeping will be better than the one lying down, the one lying down will be better than the one sitting, the one sitting will be better than the one standing, the one standing will be better than the one walking, the one walking will be better than the rider, and the rider will be better than the one galloping his horse (towards the tribulation)." I said: "O Messenger of Allah! When will that be?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Those will be the days of harj (killing, bloodshed and chaos), when a man will not be safe even from the one sitting beside him." I said: "If I live to see that time, what do you command me?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Restrain yourself and your hand (from the tribulation) and remain in your house." I said: "O Messenger of Allah! What if someone (an attacker) comes into my house?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then go into your inner room." I said: "What if someone comes in there too?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then go to your place of prostration (place of prayer) and do like this" - and he (peace and blessings be upon him) firmly gripped the joint of his wrist with his right hand - "and say: My Lord is Allah, until death comes to you in that state."
