Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8512

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "My Lord will not be incapable, for my sake, of deferring (extending the term of) my Ummah by half a day." It was asked: How long is half a day? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Five hundred years."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but the two of them did not record it in their books.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: These (words) had dropped out of our manuscripts; we restored them from the printed edition, and they are necessary.

Grading: The hadith is "hasan", but this chain is weak because of the weakness of Abu Bakr bin Abi Maryam, and for this reason al-Dhahabi declared it defective in his "Talkhis".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Moreover, the narration of Rashid bin Sa'd from Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) is "mursal" (disconnected), as Abu Zur'ah al-Razi said.
Reference / Source: Ahmad narrated it at (3/ 1464) and (1465) through two different routes from Abu Bakr bin Abi Maryam, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (4350) narrated it through the route of Safwan bin 'Amr, from Shurayh bin 'Ubayd, from Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Its narrators are thiqah, but the narration of Shurayh bin 'Ubayd from Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) is also "mursal".
