It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Tha'labah al-Khushani (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Allah Almighty will never be incapable of granting this Ummah a respite of half a day."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim, but the two of them did not record it in their books.

Explanation & Benefits

Note / Clarification: The word is like this in the manuscripts, while in the printed edition it is "lan", and it is the same ("lan") with authorities other than the author (al-Hakim).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): All its narrators are thiqah, except that Mu'awiyah bin Salih was inconsistent (idtirab) in narrating this hadith as "marfu'" and "mawquf": sometimes he narrated it as marfu' and sometimes not, as 'Abd Allah bin Salih reported in his narration in al-Tabarani's "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" (22/ 572). Imam al-Bukhari, in "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" (2/ 250), preferred its being "mawquf" and said: "Its being marfu' is not established." Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (4349) narrated it through the route of Hajjaj bin Ibrahim al-Azraq, from 'Abd Allah bin Wahb, with this same chain. See the full discussion of it there. (8631). Reference / Source: Ahmad narrated it at (29/ 17734) through the route of Layth bin Sa'd, from Mu'awiyah bin Salih, with the same chain (and Layth narrated it as mawquf), and added at its end the wording that will come with the author at number (8631).
