حدثني محمد بن صالح بن هانئ، حَدَّثَنَا الحسين بن الفَضْل البَجَلي، حَدَّثَنَا عفّان، حَدَّثَنَا همَّام، حَدَّثَنَا أبو جَمْرة، قال: كنتُ أدفعُ الزِّحامَ عن ابن عباس، قال: فاحتَبستُ عنه أيامًا، فقال: ما حَبَسَك؟ قلت: الحُمّى، فقال: إِنَّ رسول الله ﷺ قال: "الحُمّى من فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ، فَابْرُدُوها بالماء" (2). هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه بهذه الزيادة. It is narrated from Abu Jamrah that he said: I used to push people back (because of the crowd) from around Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both). Then I stayed away from his gathering for a few days. He asked: "What kept you away?" I said: "Fever." So he said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Fever is from the intense heat of Hell, so cool it with water."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it with this addition.

(2) إسناده صحيح عفان: هو ابن مسلم، وهمام: هو ابن يحيى العَوْذي، وأبو جمرة: هو نصر بن عمران. Grading: Its chain is sahih. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Affan is Ibn Muslim, Hammam is Ibn Yahya al-Awdhi, and Abu Jamrah is Nasr bin Imran. وأخرجه أحمد 4 / (2649)، والنسائي (7568)، وابن حبان (6068) من طريق عفان، بهذا الإسناد. وعندهم: "فابردوها بماء زمزم". Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Ahmad 4/ (2649), al-Nasa'i (7568) and Ibn Hibban (6068) recorded it via Affan, with this chain. Details of the narration: And in their versions the wording is: "فابردوها بماء زمزم" (cool it with Zamzam water). وسلف برقم (7627) من طريق عبد الله بن رجاء عن همام. Note / Clarification: This narration has already passed at number (7627) via Abdullah bin Raja', from Hammam.
