Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8431

It is narrated from a maidservant of Sayyiduna al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) that she said: Whenever al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) had a fever, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would order us to cool water and then pour it over him.

Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is da'if because of the jahalah (being unknown) of Kurayb bin Sulaym al-Kindi.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): "Amah", the wife of al-Zubayr, is in fact Amah bint Khalid bin Sa'id bin al-As al-Umawiyyah. The apparent sense of this report is that she was married to al-Zubayr in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), but there is "nakarah" (oddity) in this, because at that time she was far too young to be married to al-Zubayr; most likely al-Zubayr married her after the death of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); and Allah knows best.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Al-Tirmidhi recorded it in "al-Ilal al-Kabir" (590), Ibn Abi Khaythamah in the second part (al-sifr al-thani) of his "Tarikh" (3380), Ibn Abi Asim in "al-Ahad wa al-Mathani" (3452), Abu Nu'aym in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (7523), and al-Khatib in "Mudih Awham al-Jam' wa al-Tafriq" 1/ 470, through various routes from Ishaq bin Sulayman, with this chain.
