Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8406

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Usamah bin Sharik (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I was present with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while the Bedouins were asking him (about various matters). They would say: O Messenger of Allah, is there any harm for us in such and such? Is there any sin for us in such and such? They were asking about things in which there was no harm. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O servants of Allah, Allah has removed harm (from minor slips), except for the one who wrongfully assails the honour of a Muslim, oppressing him; that is the one who has fallen into sin and is ruined." The Companions said: O Messenger of Allah, should we use medicine (in illness)? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, O servants of Allah, use medicine, for Allah Almighty has not created any disease without also creating a remedy for it, except for one disease." They said: O Messenger of Allah, which disease is that? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Old age." Then they said: O Messenger of Allah, what is the best of all the blessings given to a person? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Good character."
This hadith has an authentic (sahih) chain of narration. Ten of the Imams of the Muslims and their trustworthy narrators have narrated it from Ziyad bin Ilaqah; among them is Mis'ar bin Kidam, whom I mentioned earlier, and among them is also Malik bin Mighwal al-Bajali.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) Via Muhammad bin Ubayd al-Tanafisi and Khallad bin Yahya this chain is sahih. Technical note / Defect ('illah): But via Abu Bakr al-Hanafi (Abd al-Kabir bin Abd al-Majid) it is weak because of "Muhammad bin Musa al-Qurashi", who is actually "Muhammad bin Yunus bin Musa" (attributed here to his grandfather), and he is "al-Kudaymi", who is accused (muttaham), but he is corroborated.

General principle: See the earlier nos. (421) and (7618). The takhrij is at the first of these places.
