Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (2) In the manuscripts this name is distorted into "al-Shaybani", although the author has narrated from him in several places and given his nisbah there as "al-Sabi'i", which refers to a quarter of Kufa called "al-Sabi'". Al-Dhahabi gave his biography in "Siyar A'lam al-Nubala'" (15/566). This man, who is Ibn Mata, is a mawla of the family of Zayd bin Ali al-Alawi and has no connection to "Shayban".
Note / Clarification: (3) Manuscript (B) has "yuqabbiluha", which is a distortion.
Grading: (4) This chain is weak. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Khalid bin Makhlad al-Qatawani and his shaykh Musa bin Ya'qub al-Zam'i have both been criticised, and both are closer to weakness. But Khalid al-Qatawani has been corroborated in narrating from Musa bin Ya'qub; however, Musa bin Ya'qub himself was contradicted in the wording of the text, and he was also inconsistent (idtirab) in naming the narrator from Umm Salamah (as in some of the sources): once he named him "Utbah bin Abd Allah bin Zam'ah", once "Wahb bin Abd Allah bin Zam'ah", and a third time gave the correct name "Abd Allah bin Wahb bin Zam'ah".
Reference / Source: Ibn Asakir narrated it in "Tarikh Dimashq" (14/192) via al-Hakim, with his chain to al-Abbas bin Muhammad al-Duri, from Khalid bin Makhlad, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Asim in "al-Ahad wa al-Mathani" (429), al-Tabarani in "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" (2821, 23/697), al-Bayhaqi in "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" (6/468) and Ibn Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" (14/191) narrated it via various routes from Musa bin Ya'qub al-Zam'i with this same chain.
Details of the narration: Better than it in wording is the narration of Abbad bin Ishaq, which Ibrahim bin Tahman recorded in his "Mashyakhah" (3), and via him al-Tabarani (23/698) and Ibn Asakir (14/192), from him, from Hashim bin Hashim, from Abd Allah bin Wahb, from Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her). She said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came into my house and said: "Let no one come in to me." I heard a sound, so I went in, and saw that Husayn bin Ali was with him and he was sad, or she said: weeping. I said: O Messenger of Allah, why are you weeping? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Jibril informed me that my Ummah will kill this one after me. I said: Who will kill him? So he took a clod of earth (madarah) and said: The people of this earth will kill him." Technical note / Defect ('illah): This Abbad bin Ishaq has been criticised; al-Bukhari said: he is not one of those whose memory can be relied upon. In the printed edition of al-Tabarani it reads "Ibrahim bin Abbad bin Ishaq", which is a distortion; the correct reading is "Ibrahim from Abbad bin Ishaq", and Ibrahim is Ibn Tahman.
Details of the narration: Better in wording than both of them is what Ahmad (44/26524) narrated via Sa'id bin Abi Hind, from A'ishah or Umm Salamah (with doubt), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to one of them: "An angel came into my house today who had never come to me before, and he said to me: This son of yours, Husayn, will be killed, and if you wish I will show you some of the soil of the land where he will be killed. Then he brought out red soil." Grading: There is a break (inqita') in this chain, since Sa'id bin Abi Hind is not known to have heard from A'ishah or Umm Salamah.
General principle: It has other routes that have been documented in "Musnad Ahmad", and none of their chains is free of criticism, but taken together it can be said that this dream (narration) has a basis, by which it is strengthened.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It also has several other supporting reports, which have already been mentioned under the previous hadith of Umm al-Fadl, no. (4878).
