It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uqbah bin al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with him) that al-Nu'ayman (or his son) was brought having drunk wine, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered those who were in the house to beat him. The narrator said: I was among those who beat him; we beat him with sandals and palm branches.
This hadith is sahih al-isnad (its chain is authentic), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.
Grading: (1) Its isnad is sahih. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abd al-Wahhab: he is Ibn Abd al-Majid al-Thaqafi; and Ayyub: he is (Ayyub) al-Sakhtiyani. Reference / Source: It was also recorded by al-Bukhari (2316) and (6774) via two routes from Abd al-Wahhab bin Abd al-Majid, with this same isnad. Important point: So al-Hakim's including it (in the Mustadrak as an addition to the two Sahihs) is an oversight on his part. Reference / Source: It was also recorded by Ahmad 26/ (16155), al-Bukhari (6775) and al-Nasa'i (5276) via Wuhayb bin Khalid, from Ayyub al-Sakhtiyani, in the same way. Note / Clarification: And see the one after it. Technical note / Defect ('illah): As for al-Nu'ayman, al-Hafiz (Ibn Hajar) said in "Fath al-Bari" 7/ 408: He is al-Nu'ayman bin Amr bin Rifa'ah bin al-Harith bin Sawad bin Malik bin Ghanm bin Malik bin al-Najjar al-Ansari, one of those who were present at Badr, and he was very fond of joking.
