Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8310

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Hilal bin Umayyah, in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), accused his wife of adultery with Sharik bin Sahma'. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Produce evidence, or else the prescribed punishment (lashes) will be applied to your back."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Grading: (3) Its chain is sahih.
Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari (2671, 4747), Abu Dawud (2254), Ibn Majah (2067) and al-Tirmidhi (3179) narrated it at length through the route of Muhammad bin Ibrahim bin Abi Adi, from Hisham bin Hassan, with this same chain.
Grading: Imam al-Tirmidhi said: "This hadith is hasan gharib."
Details of the narration: Likewise, Abbad bin Mansur narrated this hadith from Ikrimah, from Ibn Abbas, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), while Ayyub narrated it from Ikrimah as mursal and did not mention Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) in it.
Important point: We say: The narration of Abbad bin Mansur from Ikrimah was transmitted at length through his route by Imam Ahmad (4/2131) and Abu Dawud (2256). As for the narration of Ayyub (al-Sakhtiyani), there is disagreement from him over whether it is connected or mursal. Jarir bin Hazim narrated it from Ayyub with a connected chain (mentioning Ibn Abbas) in al-Hakim's earlier narration no. (2849), and we gave its sources there; and Hammad bin Zayd narrated it (as connected) in al-Nasa'i (8169), although al-Nasa'i did not quote it in full.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Ma'mar (in Abd al-Razzaq: 12444) and Isma'il Ibn Ulayyah (in al-Tabari's Tafsir: 18/81) narrated it from Ayyub, from Ikrimah, as mursal.
Reference / Source: This hadith was also narrated at length by Ahmad (5/3106, 3360, 3449), al-Bukhari (5310, 5316, 6856), Muslim (1497) and al-Nasa'i (5635, 7295) through the route of al-Qasim bin Muhammad, from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both).
