Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8282

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a woman from the tribe of Ghamid came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: I have committed fornication. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go back." She went away, then came back and said: Perhaps you want to put me off just as you put off Ma'iz bin Malik. By Allah, I am pregnant. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go until you give birth." Then she brought the child wrapped in a cloth and said: I have given birth to him; now purify me. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go until you wean him." So she came (after the period), and there was a piece of bread in the child's hand, and she said: I have weaned him. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that she be stoned.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This hadith is sahih, and in corroborating and supporting reports (mutaba'at and shawahid) this chain is "hasan" because it contains "Bashir bin al-Muhajir". Technical note: Imam Muslim took this single hadith of Bashir only as support (corroboration), not as primary evidence. Important point: This hadith is also established as sahih through the route of Sulayman bin Buraydah from his father, as will come.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (38/22949), Muslim (1695/23), Abu Dawud (4442) and al-Nasa'i (7159, 7231) narrated it through various routes from Bashir bin al-Muhajir, with this same chain. Details of the narration: In Muslim's narration the story of Ma'iz is mentioned before the story of the Ghamidi woman; his story has already passed on its own with the author (al-Hakim) with this same chain (no. 8277).
Reference / Source: A similar narration was transmitted by Muslim (1695/22) and al-Nasa'i (7148) through the route of Sulayman bin Buraydah, from his father (Buraydah, may Allah be pleased with him). Grading: Its chain is sahih.
