Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (3) In the manuscripts this word is corrupted into "Umar".
Grading: (4) This narration is "hasan li-ghayrihi", and there is no harm in the narrators of this chain,
Technical note / Defect ('illah): but al-Muttalib bin Abd Allah (who is Ibn Hantab) did not hear from Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him), as Abu Hatim al-Razi and others said. For this reason al-Hafiz al-Dhahabi declared it defective in "al-Talkhis" and said: It contains "irsal" (a break in the chain).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Isma'il: he is Ibn Ja'far bin Abi Kathir; and Amr bin Abi Amr: he is the mawla of al-Muttalib.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (37/22757) narrated it from Sulayman bin Dawud al-Hashimi, and Ibn Hibban (271) via Abu al-Rabi' al-Zahrani Sulayman bin Dawud; both of them (al-Hashimi and al-Zahrani) narrate it from Isma'il bin Ja'far, with this same chain.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: And the next hadith of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) with the author (al-Hakim) is a supporting report (shahid) for it.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On this topic there is also a marfu' narration from Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him): "Guarantee me six things and I will guarantee you Paradise: when one of you speaks, let him not lie; when he promises, let him not break it; when he is entrusted, let him not betray; lower your gazes, guard your private parts, and restrain your hands (from wrongdoing)."
Reference / Source: Ibn Hibban narrated it in "al-Majruhin" (2/204), al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (8018) and "al-Awsat" (2539), Ibn Adi in "al-Kamil" (6/21) and al-Khatib in "Tarikh Baghdad" (8/395).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Its chain contains Faddal bin Jubayr (also called Ibn al-Zubayr), and he is weak in hadith. Also al-Tabarani narrated it in "al-Kabir" (8082) via another route containing two weak narrators: al-Ala' bin Sulayman al-Raqqi and his shaykh al-Khalil bin Murrah.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: And from al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) as marfu': "Whoever guarantees me six things, I guarantee him Paradise." They said: O Messenger of Allah, what are they? He said: "One who, when he speaks, tells the truth; when he promises, fulfils it; when he is entrusted, renders the trust; and who lowers his gaze, guards his private parts and restrains his hand."
Reference / Source: Ma'mar narrated it in his "al-Jami'" (20200), and through him al-Bayhaqi in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (5041) and Qiwam al-Sunnah in "al-Targhib wa al-Tarhib" (2254), from Abu Ishaq, from al-Zubayr.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: And from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) as marfu': "Guarantee me six traits and I will guarantee you Paradise." I said: O Messenger of Allah, what are they? He said: "Prayer, zakah, the trust, the private parts, the stomach and the tongue."
Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani narrated it in "al-Awsat" (4925, 8599).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Its chain contains Jamil bin Hammad al-Ta'i. Al-Barqani says: I asked al-Daraqutni about the chain Jamil bin Hammad, from Ismah bin Zamil, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah, and he said: "This is a Bedouin chain; it is recorded for consideration (i'tibar, as support)." We say: And this is the chain of this hadith.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: And from Abu Qurad al-Sulami (may Allah be pleased with him) as marfu': "If you love that Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, and His Messenger love you, then render the trust when you are entrusted, speak the truth when you speak, and be good neighbours to those who live near you."
Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Asim narrated it in "al-Ahad wa al-Mathani" (1397) and al-Tabarani in "al-Awsat" (6517).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In its chain, Ubayd bin Waqid al-Qaysi is "weak", and his shaykh Ata' bin Abi Yahya is "majhul".
