Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8261

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O young men of Quraysh! Do not commit fornication. Take heed! Whoever guards his private parts, Paradise is for him."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (3) There is no harm in its narrators,
Technical note / Defect ('illah): except that Sa'id bin Iyas al-Jurayri suffered memory deterioration (ikhtilat), and we do not know whether the narration of Shaddad bin Sa'id (who is al-Rasibi) from him was after the deterioration or before it; however, Shaddad also narrated it with another chain, which is mentioned later. Abu Nadrah: his name is al-Mundhir bin Malik bin Qit'ah al-Abdi.
Reference / Source: Imam al-Bukhari narrated it in "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" (4/227), Ibn Abi Asim in "al-Sunnah" (1534), al-Bazzar in his "Musnad" (4729, 5322), al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (12776) and "al-Awsat" (6850), Abu Nu'aym in "al-Hilyah" (3/100) and al-Bayhaqi in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (4984), through various routes from Muslim bin Ibrahim, with this same chain. Al-Tabarani said: No one narrated it from al-Jurayri except Shaddad; Muslim (bin Ibrahim) is alone in it, and it is narrated from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) only with this chain. Abu Nu'aym said: It is "gharib" as a hadith of Abu Nadrah; no one narrated it from him except al-Jurayri, and Shaddad is alone in narrating it from him (al-Jurayri).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: We say: Muslim (bin Ibrahim) was corroborated by Sa'id bin Sulayman al-Nashiti, as found in al-Bayhaqi's "Shu'ab al-Iman" (5042); he narrated it from Shaddad bin Sa'id.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): But al-Nashiti is a weak narrator.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu Qutaybah Salm bin Qutaybah contradicted them both: he narrated it from Shaddad bin Sa'id Abu Talhah, from Mu'awiyah bin Qurrah, from Ibn Abbas (the chain was changed). Al-Dulabi narrated it in "al-Kuna" (1210) from al-Nasa'i, from Ahmad bin Abi Ubayd Allah (a Basran), from Abu Qutaybah. Its chain is "hasan" if Salm bin Qutaybah preserved it accurately; otherwise Muslim bin Ibrahim is more reliable than him and a greater hafiz.
Reference / Source: Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi (2879) narrated it, and through him al-Bayhaqi in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (5043) and Qiwam al-Sunnah in "al-Targhib wa al-Tarhib" (1491), from Abu Talhah "al-A'ma" (the blind), from a man whom he named, from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both).
Note / Clarification: Yet in the biography (tarjamah) of Abu Talhah Shaddad bin Sa'id it is not mentioned that he was blind; so Allah the Exalted knows best.
Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Asim (1535) and Abu Ya'la (1427) narrated it from Muhammad bin Marzuq, from Zajir bin al-Salt, from al-Harith bin Umayr, from Shaddad Abu Talhah, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, and he mentioned it as "mu'dal" (with two or more consecutive narrators dropped from the chain).
Note / Clarification: Caution: Imam Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili (inadvertently) included this hadith in the Musnad of Abu Talhah al-Ansari, thinking that this "Abu Talhah" is the Companion of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) (al-Ansari), and his (Abu Ya'la's) editor followed him in this; neither of them noticed that this "Abu Talhah" is actually Shaddad bin Sa'id, and that the hadith is well known through him, but he narrated it as "mu'dal" in this narration.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Likewise, al-Harith bin Umayr, who is among those narrating from Shaddad, was not recognised by the editor, who said he is "majhul", although he is among the narrators of "al-Tahdhib". He is among those about whom there was sharp disagreement: a group of imams such as Yahya bin Ma'in, Abu Zur'ah, Abu Hatim, al-Nasa'i and al-Daraqutni declared him reliable, while others declared him weak. Al-Azdi said: He is weak and munkar al-hadith. Al-Hakim said: He narrated fabricated (mawdu') reports from Humayd al-Tawil and Ja'far bin Muhammad. Ibn al-Jawzi quoted from Ibn Khuzaymah that he called him a liar. And Ibn Hibban said: He was among those who narrate fabricated things from reliable narrators. Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar tried to reconcile these statements in "al-Taqrib", saying: The majority declared him reliable, but among his hadiths are munkar narrations for which al-Azdi, Ibn Hibban and others declared him weak; perhaps his memory deteriorated at the end of his life.
