Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts (the word) was distorted into "al-sabil", while it appears correctly in "al-Talkhis".
Grading: Its chain is "hasan" because of Ibn Abi al-Zinad ('Abd al-Rahman).
Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi (6/ 247) narrated something similar via Ahmad bin 'Amr bin al-Sarh, from 'Abdullah bin Wahb, with this same chain. Then al-Bayhaqi said: "Others added in it, from Ibn Abi al-Zinad, from his father, from Kharijah bin Zayd, from his father... Zayd said: I gave 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) an example about that. I said: If there were a tree from whose root a branch grew, and then from that branch two tender twigs (khutan) grew; that branch joins those two twigs, rather than the root, and nourishes them. O Commander of the Believers, do you not see that one of the two twigs is closer to its brother (the other twig) than to the root? Zayd said: Take the root of the tree as an example of the grandfather, the branch that grew from the root as an example of the father, and the two twigs that grew from the branch as an example of the brothers."
Reference / Source: Similarly, al-Daraqutni (4140) and al-Bayhaqi (6/ 247) narrated it via Sa'id bin Sulayman bin Zayd bin Thabit, from his father, from his grandfather.
Reference / Source: (See) "Musannaf 'Abd al-Razzaq" (19058) and "Sunan al-Bayhaqi" (6/ 247-248), via al-Thawri, from 'Isa bin Abi 'Isa al-Madani, from al-Sha'bi, who said: "'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) disliked speaking about the grandfather (and his inheritance) until he himself became a grandfather…", and he mentioned a long discussion.
Grading: 'Isa al-Madani is "matruk" (abandoned), and al-Sha'bi did not hear from 'Umar.
