أخبرنا أبو بكر، أخبرنا الحسن بن علي بن زياد، حدثنا إبراهيم بن حمزة، حدثنا عبد العزيز بن أبي حازم، عن كَثير بن زيد عن المطّلِب بن عبد الله، عن أبي هريرة، أنَّ رسول الله ﷺ قال: "رُبَّ أشعثَ أغبَرَ ذي طِمْرَينِ، تَنبُو عنه (3) أَعيُنُ الناس، لو أقسَمَ على الله لأبَرَّه" (4).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، أظنُّ مسلمًا أخرجه من حديث حفص بن عبد الله بن أنس (1).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Many a (humble) person, dishevelled, dust-covered and wearing two worn-out garments, whom people's eyes do not like to look at (regarding him as lowly), if he were to swear an oath relying on Allah, Allah would surely fulfil his oath."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration. I think that Imam Muslim recorded it through the narration of Hafs bin Abdullah bin Anas.

(3) تحرَّف في النسخ الخطية إلى: عند، وجاء على الصواب في "تلخيص المستدرك".
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts (a word) was corrupted into "'inda", and the correct form is what came in "Talkhis al-Mustadrak".
(4) حديث صحيح، وهذا إسناد رجاله لا بأس بهم، لكن المطلب بن عبد الله - وهو ابن حنطب - مدلس، وقد عنعن، وعدَّ أبو حاتم الرازي روايته عن أبي هريرة مرسلة كما في "المراسيل" لابنه (780)، وقد توبع.
Grading: The hadith is sahih, and there is no harm in the narrators of this chain (la ba'sa bihim).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): But al-Muttalib bin 'Abd Allah (Ibn Hantab) is a mudallis and narrated it with 'an'anah. Abu Hatim al-Razi counted his narration from Abu Hurayrah as mursal, as in his son's book "al-Marasil" (780); however, he has been corroborated.
وأخرجه الطحاوي في "شرح المشكل" (674) عن إبراهيم بن أبي داود، عن إبراهيم بن حمزة الزبيري، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Al-Tahawi recorded it in "Sharh al-Mushkil" (674) from Ibrahim bin Abi Dawud, from Ibrahim bin Hamzah al-Zubayri, with this chain.
وأخرجه مسلم (2622) و (2854)، وابن حبان (6483) من طريق العلاء بن عبد الرحمن، عن أبيه، عن أبي هريرة.
Reference / Source: Muslim (2622, 2854) and Ibn Hibban (6483) recorded it through the route of al-'Ala' bin 'Abd al-Rahman, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah.
وفي الباب عن أنس بن مالك، سلف برقم (5356).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On this topic there is also a report from Anas bin Malik, which has passed at no. (5356).
