Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8129

أخبرني أبو عمرو إسماعيل بن نُجَيد السُّلَمي، حدثنا علي بن الحسين (1) ابن الجُنَيد، حدثنا المُعافَى بن سليمان، حدثنا محمد بن سَلَمة، عن أبي عبد الرحيم، عن عبد الوهاب بن بُخْت، عن عبد الله بن ذَكْوان، عن الأعرج، عن أبي هريرة قال: قال رسولُ الله ﷺ: "قلب الشيخ شابٌّ على حبِّ اثنتَين: طولِ الحياة وكَثْرَةِ المال" (2).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The heart of an old man remains young in the love of two things: the desire for a long life and abundance of wealth."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim).

(2) حديث صحيح، وهذا إسناد قوي من أجل المعافى بن سليمان محمد بن سلمة: هو ابن عبد الله الحرّاني وأبو عبد الرحيم: هو خالد بن أبي يزيد، ويقال: ابن يزيد بن سماك الحرّاني.
Grading: The hadith is sahih, and this chain is strong (qawi) because of al-Mu'afa bin Sulayman.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): 1. Muhammad bin Salamah: he is Ibn 'Abd Allah al-Harrani. 2. Abu 'Abd al-Rahim: he is Khalid bin Abi Yazid, and he is also called Ibn Yazid bin Simak al-Harrani.
وأخرجه أحمد 14 / (8699) و 15 / (9123) و (9720) و (9776)، ومسلم (1046) (113) من طرق عن أبي الزناد عبد الله بن ذكوان، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (14/8699, 15/9123, 9720, 9776) and Muslim (1046/113) recorded it through various routes from Abu al-Zinad 'Abd Allah bin Dhakwan, with this chain.
وأخرجه بنحوه أحمد 13/ (8211) من طريق همام بن منبه، وأحمد 16/ (10514)، والنسائي (11766)، وابن حبان (3230) من طريق أبي سلمة، والبخاري (6420)، ومسلم (1046) (114)، والنسائي (11766) من طريق سعيد بن المسيّب، وأحمد 14 / (8422) و (8456) و (8472)، وابن حبان (3219) من طريق عطاء بن يسار، وأحمد 14/ (8934) و (8946)، والترمذي (2338) من طريق أبي صالح السمان، وابن ماجه (4233) من طريق عبد الرحمن بن يعقوب، ستتهم عن أبي هريرة.
Reference / Source: Something similar was recorded by Ahmad (13/8211) through the route of Hammam bin Munabbih; by Ahmad (16/10514), al-Nasa'i (11766) and Ibn Hibban (3230) through the route of Abu Salamah; by al-Bukhari (6420), Muslim (1046/114) and al-Nasa'i (11766) through the route of Sa'id bin al-Musayyab; by Ahmad (14/8422, 8456, 8472) and Ibn Hibban (3219) through the route of 'Ata' bin Yasar; by Ahmad (14/8934, 8946) and al-Tirmidhi (2338) through the route of Abu Salih al-Samman; and by Ibn Majah (4233) through the route of 'Abd al-Rahman bin Ya'qub; all six of them from Abu Hurayrah.
