It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A time will come upon the people when they will sit in circles in their mosques, but their only aim will be the world. Allah has no need of such people, so do not sit with them."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is utterly weak because of the weakness of Ahmad bin Bakr al-Balisi. Ibn 'Adi said: He narrated munkar reports from trustworthy narrators; and Zayd bin al-Hubab is "layyin" (soft) in what he narrates from al-Thawri. Important point: What is more correct is that this report is the words of al-Hasan al-Basri himself. Technical note / Defect ('illah): 'Awf is Ibn Abi Jamilah. Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi recorded it in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (2701) via Muhammad bin Yusuf, who said: Sufyan mentioned from some of his companions, from al-Hasan, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A time will come upon people when their talk in their mosques will be about the affairs of their world; so do not sit with them, for Allah has no need of them." Grading: Al-Bayhaqi said: It has come thus as "mursal". Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Shaybah (13/ 528) recorded it from Mu'awiyah bin Hisham, from Sufyan, from Abu Hazim, from al-Hasan (as his own saying). Grading: And this chain up to al-Hasan al-Basri is "hasan". Reference / Source: Al-Marrudhi recorded it in "al-Wara'" (202) via Sufyan, from a man, from al-Hasan, as his own saying. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On this topic there is a narration from Ibn Mas'ud in Ibn Hibban (6761), and its chain is weak.
