Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Clarification: In the manuscripts (the name) was "Sa'id al-Akhram", and the correction is taken from "Ithaf al-Maharah" (13270).

Clarification: This (text) was not present in the manuscripts; we have established it from the sources of takhrij.

Grading: Its chain is weak.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): 1. Al-Mughirah bin Sa'd bin al-Akhram: more than one narrator narrated from him, and al-'Ijli and Ibn Hibban declared him trustworthy. 2. His father Sa'd bin al-Akhram: there is disagreement over whether he was a Companion. Al-Bukhari and Abu Hatim mentioned him among the Successors, whereas Ibn Hibban mentioned him once among the Companions (3/ 150) and another time among the trustworthy Successors (4/ 295). And al-Dhahabi mentioned in "al-Mizan" (2/ 119) that no one narrated from him except his son al-Mughirah.
Details of the narration: In al-Hakim's narration, which is via Abd al-Malik bin 'Amr al-'Aqadi from Shu'bah, the name "al-Mughirah bin Sa'd" is stated explicitly. However, al-Tayalisi in his "Musnad" (378), and al-Nadr bin Shumayl and 'Amr bin Marzuq in al-Shashi (812 and 813), narrated it from Shu'bah; all three of them (al-Tayalisi, al-Nadr and 'Amr) narrate it from Shu'bah, from al-A'mash, who said: I heard Shimr bin 'Atiyyah narrating from "a man of the tribe of Tayyi'", from his father. So, narrating from Shu'bah, they left the name of al-Mughirah bin Sa'd unnamed (mubham). In it al-A'mash also explicitly states that he heard it from Shimr.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (6/ 3579) recorded it from Sufyan bin 'Uyaynah; Ahmad (7/ 4048) and Ibn Hibban (710) via Abu Mu'awiyah Muhammad bin Khazim; and Ahmad (7/ 4234) and al-Tirmidhi (2328) via Sufyan al-Thawri. All three of them (Ibn 'Uyaynah, Abu Mu'awiyah and al-Thawri) narrate it from al-A'mash with this same chain, with (the narrator's) name stated explicitly (musamma), as in al-Hakim's narration.
Grading: Al-Tirmidhi said: This hadith is "hasan".
