Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is talif (utterly ruined).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In it is Ishaq bin Bishr (Abu Hudhayfah al-Bukhari), who is matruk (abandoned) and accused (muttaham). For this reason Imam al-Dhahabi declared it defective in "al-Talkhis", saying: "Ishaq is nothing ('adam), and I reckon this report is fabricated."
Note / Clarification: This narration will come later with the author (al-Hakim) at number (8100) via this same Ishaq bin Bishr, but there he made it a hadith of Ibn Mas'ud.
Reference / Source: Al-Khatib recorded it in abridged form in "Tarikh Baghdad" (11/ 9), and through his route Ibn al-Jawzi in "al-Mawdu'at" (1605), via Abdullah bin Ahmad bin al-Husayn al-Marwazi, from Ishaq bin Bishr, with this same chain.
Grading: Ibn al-Jawzi said: This hadith is not authentic, and the one accused of it is Ishaq. Then he quoted from the imams their declaring him a liar.
Important point: We say: Ishaq is not alone in this narration; rather, al-Bayhaqi recorded it in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (10038) via al-Sari bin Sahl, from Abdullah bin Rushayd, from al-Rabi' bin Badr, from Abu al-'Aliyah, from Hudhayfah, as marfu'.
Details of the narration: Its wording is: "Whoever wakes up with his concern being other than Allah, he has nothing to do with Allah."
Grading: However, its chain too is very weak.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): For al-Sari bin Sahl and Abdullah bin Rushayd (who is al-Jundaysaburi) cannot be used as proof, as al-Bayhaqi said. Although Ibn Hibban mentioned the second (Abdullah) in "al-Thiqat" and called him "mustaqim al-hadith" (sound in hadith), (the third narrator) al-Rabi' bin Badr is matruk (abandoned).
Reference / Source: Hannad recorded it in "al-Zuhd" (as in al-Suyuti's "al-La'ali' al-Masnu'ah" 2/ 268).
Details of the narration: The chain: Qabisah, from Sufyan al-Thawri, from Aban (bin Abi 'Ayyash), from Abu al-'Aliyah, from Hudhayfah. (The narrator says:) I think he attributed it to the Prophet (marfu'); the wording is: "Whoever wakes up with his greatest concern being other than Allah, he has no share in anything from Allah."
Technical note / Defect ('illah): We say: In it, Aban bin Abi 'Ayyash is also matruk (abandoned).
Reference / Source: Ibn Lal recorded it in "Makarim al-Akhlaq" (as cited in "al-La'ali' al-Masnu'ah" 2/ 268) via al-Ja'fari (Muhammad bin Isma'il), from Abdullah bin Salamah bin Aslam, from 'Uqbah bin Shaddad al-Jumahi, from Hudhayfah, as marfu': "Whoever wakes up with this world as his greatest concern, he has no share in anything from Allah."
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Its chain consists of weak narrators one after another (musalsal bil-du'afa'): 1. Muhammad al-Ja'fari: Abu Hatim called him munkar al-hadith and said that people criticise him, and Abu Nu'aym called him matruk (as cited in "al-Lisan"). 2. Abdullah bin Salamah: al-Daraqutni declared him weak and Abu Nu'aym called him matruk (as cited in "al-Mizan"), and al-Hafiz (Ibn Hajar) followed him in "al-Lisan"; they both treated him as someone other than Abdullah bin Salamah al-Rab'i, whereas in our view the two are one and the same, and al-'Uqayli said about the second: munkar al-hadith. 3. His shaykh 'Uqbah bin Shaddad is unknown (la yu'raf).
Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani recorded it in "al-Awsat" (7473) and "al-Saghir" (907), and from him Abu Nu'aym in "Tarikh Asbahan" (2/ 252), via Muhammad bin Shu'ayb al-Asbahani, from Ahmad bin Ibrahim al-Zam'i, from Abdullah bin Abi Ja'far al-Razi, from his father, from al-Rabi', from Abu al-'Aliyah, from Hudhayfah, as marfu'.
Details of the narration: The wording is: "Whoever does not concern himself with the affairs of the Muslims is not one of them, and whoever does not pass his morning and evening sincere towards Allah, His Messenger, His Book, his imam and the generality of the Muslims is not one of them."
Note / Clarification: He (al-Tabarani) said: No one narrated it from Abu Ja'far al-Razi except his son, and it is narrated from Hudhayfah only with this chain.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): We say: Its chain is marked throughout by unknown and weak narrators: 1. Muhammad bin Shu'ayb: Abu al-Shaykh said that he narrated from the people of Rayy things we did not find in Rayy, and we wrote them only from him. Abu Nu'aym said: he narrates ghara'ib (strange reports) from the people of Rayy, and al-Dhahabi said the same. Al-Haythami said: I do not know him. 2. His shaykh Ahmad bin Ibrahim al-Zam'i: Imam al-Dhahabi said in "Tarikh al-Islam" (6/ 1029), in the biography of Muhammad bin Shu'ayb al-Asbahani: I do not know him. 3. Abdullah bin Abi Ja'far al-Razi and his father: neither of them is strong.
Important point: What is correct in this is the narration which Imam Ahmad recorded in "al-Zuhd" (178) via Abd al-Rahman bin Mahdi, from Abd al-'Aziz bin Muslim, from al-Rabi' bin Anas, from Abu al-'Aliyah, from Ubayy bin Ka'b, as mawquf: "Whoever wakes up with his greatest concern being other than Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, he has nothing to do with Allah." And this chain is jayyid (good).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On this topic there is a report from Abu Dharr in al-Tabarani's "al-Awsat" (471), but in it is Yazid bin Rabi'ah al-Rahabi, who is "matruk al-hadith" (abandoned in hadith).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: And it is also narrated from Anas bin Malik through more than one route, but all of them are very weak and of no avail.
Details of the narration: Abu Ishaq al-Khuttali recorded it in "al-Mahabbah" (38) via Abu 'Urwah al-Basri (Ziyad bin Maymun), from Abu 'Ammar (Ziyad), from Anas.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu 'Urwah is majhul (unknown), and his shaykh Abu 'Ammar is accused of lying (muttaham bil-kadhib). Abu Nu'aym also recorded it in "Tarikh Asbahan" (1/ 243) via the same Ziyad bin Maymun, but there he did not mention Ziyad Abu 'Ammar (in between).
Reference / Source: Ibn 'Adi recorded it in "al-Kamil" (7/ 67), Abu Tahir al-Mukhallis in "al-Mukhallisiyyat" (2926), Abu Nu'aym in "al-Hilyah" (3/ 48) and al-Bayhaqi in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (10102), via Wahb bin Rashid, from Farqad al-Sabakhi, from Anas.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu Nu'aym said: No one narrated it from Anas except Farqad, and no one from him except Wahb bin Rashid! And the hadith of Wahb and Farqad, and what they alone narrate, cannot be used as proof. Al-Bayhaqi also declared it weak. We say: The weakness of Wahb bin Rashid is severe, as is known from his biography in "al-Lisan", and he has been contradicted in this narration.
Reference / Source: Abdullah bin Ahmad recorded it in "al-Zuhd" (1909), al-Hakim al-Tirmidhi in "Nawadir al-Usul" (1464), Abu Nu'aym in "al-Hilyah" (3/ 45) and al-Bayhaqi in "al-Shu'ab" (9573), through various routes from Sayyar bin Hatim, from Ja'far bin Sulayman al-Duba'i.
Details of the narration: He said: I heard Farqad al-Sabakhi say: I read in the Torah: "Whoever wakes up grieving over this world wakes up angry with his Lord, the Mighty and Majestic; whoever sits with a rich man and humbles himself before him, two thirds of his religion are gone; and whoever is struck by a calamity and complains of it to people is in fact complaining about his Lord, the Mighty and Majestic."
Grading: Its chain can bear being graded hasan (i.e. it may be hasan), but what is correct about it is that it is "mawquf", not "marfu'" (a saying of the Prophet).
Reference / Source: Ibn al-Najjar recorded it in "Dhayl Tarikh Baghdad" (as in "al-La'ali' al-Masnu'ah" 2/ 267) via Abdullah bin Zubayd al-Iyami, from Aban, from Anas.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): It has already passed that Aban (who is Ibn Abi 'Ayyash) is matruk (abandoned).
