It is narrated from Sayyidah Asma bint Umays al-Khath'amiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Wretched is the servant who is lost in fancies and behaves arrogantly, and forgets the Great, the Most High. Wretched is the servant who is heedless and absorbed in amusement, and forgets his beginning and his end. Wretched is the servant who transgresses and rebels, and forgets the graves and (the body's) decay. Wretched is the servant who trades his religion for the world. Wretched is the servant who deceives the religion through doubtful matters. Wretched is the servant whom (unjust) awe and fear turn away from the truth. Wretched is the servant whose reins are in the hands of his greed. And wretched is the servant whose desire leads him astray."
None of the narrators in the chain of this hadith is attributed with any criticism, and when the narrators are like this, the hadith is sahih (authentic), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Hadith Takhrij«
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is utterly weak. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Hashim bin Sa'id al-Kufi is weak; and Zayd bin Abdullah al-Khath'ami (this is how the author named his father, whereas in "Tahdhib al-Kamal" he is Ibn 'Atiyyah) is majhul (unknown), no one narrated from him except Hashim bin Sa'id. Also the status of Muhammad bin Sulayman bin Yusuf al-Sulayti is not known, except that he is corroborated. Imam al-Dhahabi said in "al-Talkhis": "Its chain is dark (muzlim)." Reference / Source: Al-Tirmidhi (2448) recorded it from Muhammad bin Yahya al-Azdi, from Abd al-Samad bin Abd al-Warith, with this same chain. Details of the narration: He added in it: "Wretched is the servant who acts tyrannically and transgresses, and forgets the Most High, the Compeller (Allah)." Al-Tirmidhi said: "This hadith is gharib; we know it only from this route, and its chain is not strong." Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Something similar was narrated from the hadith of Nu'aym bin Hammar al-Ghatafani by Ibn 'Adi in "al-Kamil" (4/ 110), Ibn Abi 'Asim in "al-Sunnah" (9) in abridged form, and al-Bayhaqi in "al-Shu'ab" (7833) (but al-Bayhaqi did not give its full wording). Technical note / Defect ('illah): In its chain is Talhah bin Zayd al-Raqqi, who is accused (muttaham), so it is of no avail (i.e. it cannot be relied upon). Ibn Abi Hatim mentioned it in "al-'Ilal" (1838) and quoted his father (Abu Hatim) as saying: "This hadith is munkar; Talhah is weak in hadith, and Yazid (who is Ibn Shurayh) did not live in the time of Nu'aym bin Hammar (so there is a break)."
Note / Clarification: Manuscripts (Z) and (M) add the word "sahih", whereas it is not in manuscripts (K) and (B).
