Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8065

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "O Aishah! If you wish to join me (in the Hereafter), then let as much of the world suffice you as a rider's provision for the journey. Do not consider any garment worn out until you have patched it, and beware of sitting in the gatherings of the wealthy."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Hadith Grading
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is very weak (wahin).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): About Abu al-'Abbas bin Masruq (Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Masruq al-Baghdadi, the ascetic) al-Daraqutni said: He is not strong, although he has been corroborated. Sa'id bin Muhammad al-Warraq is da'if, and his shaykh Salih bin Hassan (al-Ansari al-Madani) is "extremely weak", and the hadith revolves around him. Imam al-Tirmidhi declared the hadith defective because of him (Salih), whereas al-Dhahabi in "al-Talkhis" attributed the defect to Sa'id al-Warraq and said: "Al-Warraq is nothing", even though several narrators corroborated Sa'id!
Reference / Source: Al-Tirmidhi (1780) recorded it from Yahya bin Musa, from Sa'id bin Muhammad al-Warraq, with this same chain. Al-Tirmidhi paired Abu Yahya al-Himmani ('Abd al-Hamid bin 'Abd al-Rahman), who is "hasan al-hadith", with Sa'id al-Warraq. Al-Tirmidhi said: It is gharib; we know it only from the hadith of Salih bin Hassan, and I heard Muhammad (i.e. Imam al-Bukhari) say that Salih bin Hassan is "munkar al-hadith".
Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani narrated in "al-Awsat" (7010) from Suwayd bin 'Abd al-'Aziz, from Nuh bin Dhakwan, from Yahya bin Abi Kathir, from Abu al-Zinad, from Ghalib, from Jabir, who said: I went in to 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), and she was wearing a patched garment. I said: If only you would take this off. She said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had said: "If you would like to meet me, do not discard a garment until you have patched it, and do not store up food for a month." And I will not change what he commanded me until I join him.
Important point: Al-Tabarani says: This hadith is narrated from 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) via Jabir only with this chain; Suwayd bin 'Abd al-'Aziz is alone in narrating it.
Grading: We say: its chain is extremely weak; Suwayd is da'if, Nuh is very weak (wahin), and we could not identify the narrator named Ghalib.
Note / Clarification: Regarding the words of the hadith "la tastakhliqi thawban", al-Mubarakfuri said in "Tuhfat al-Ahwadhi": It is with the pointed kha' and the qaf; that is, do not consider it worn out (it is from "istakhlaqa", the opposite of "istajadda"). "Hatta turaqqi'ihi" (with a shaddah on the qaf) means: sew a patch on it and then wear it.
