Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8058

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Malik al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the time of his death drew near, he said: O company of Ash'aris! Let those of you who are present convey this to those who are absent: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The sweetness of the world is the bitterness of the Hereafter, and the bitterness of the world is the sweetness of the Hereafter."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Hadith Grading
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts this name has been distorted into "'Abd Allah".

Grading: Its chain is da'if due to a break,
Technical note / Defect ('illah): because Shurayh bin 'Ubayd's narration from Abu Malik al-Ash'ari is "munqati' and mursal", as Abu Hatim al-Razi said. Abu al-Mughirah (in the chain) refers to "'Abd al-Quddus bin al-Hajjaj al-Khawlani", and Safwan bin 'Amr refers to "al-Saksaki".
