Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts this name has been distorted into "Sa'id".
Note / Clarification: The text between the square brackets [ ] is not in the manuscripts; we have established it from "al-Talkhis" and the source works.
Grading: Its chain is "hasan" because of Zaynab bint Ka'b,
Technical note / Defect ('illah): since two narrators narrated from her and Ibn Hibban mentioned her in "al-Thiqat"; she is the wife of Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him), the Companion who narrates this hadith, and Sa'd bin Ishaq, the narrator from her, is her nephew.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (17/11183), al-Nasa'i (7447) and Ibn Hibban (2928) narrated it through various routes from Yahya bin Sa'id al-Qattan, with this same chain.
Important point: (Caution) This supplication of our master Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him), that Allah afflict him with illness, is to be understood as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) not having heard him make it, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to command asking Allah for well-being ('afiyah); thus he said: "Ask Allah for pardon and well-being, and for certainty (of faith) in the Hereafter and in this world,"
Note / Clarification: This narration has already passed (no. 1959) from the hadith of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), and its chain is sahih.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Muslim (2688) narrated from the hadith of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) visited a man from among the Muslims who had become so weak (from illness) that he was like a chick. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "Were you supplicating for something, or asking Him for it?" He said: Yes, I used to say: O Allah, whatever punishment You would give me in the Hereafter, hasten it for me in this world. At this the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Glory be to Allah! You cannot bear it, or you are not able to endure it. Why did you not say: O Allah, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire?" The narrator said: Then he supplicated to Allah for him, and Allah cured him.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: In the hadith of 'Abd Allah bin 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) never abandoned these supplications in the morning and evening: "O Allah, I ask You for well-being in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in my religion, my worldly life, my family and my wealth" (to the end of the hadith).
Reference / Source: Ahmad (8/4785) narrated it, and through him the author (al-Hakim) narrated it earlier (no. 1923).
Important point: So this is his (peace and blessings be upon him) way, and it is the most perfect guidance.
