Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8046

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) that, while on the pulpit, he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Beware! Nothing remains of the world except what is like flies darting to and fro in the air. So fear Allah regarding those brothers of yours who are the people of the graves (that is, those who have died), for your deeds are presented to them."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Note / Clarification: This text is established from manuscript (K), while in the other manuscripts the name has been distorted into "Adam".

Grading: Its chain is da'if,
Technical note / Defect ('illah): because (the narrator) Abu Isma'il al-Sakuni and his shaykh Malik bin Adda are both "majhul" (unknown), as Imam Abu Hatim al-Razi stated, as found in "al-Jarh wal-Ta'dil" (9/336); and it is because of these two narrators that Imam al-Dhahabi declared it defective in "al-Talkhis".
Reference / Source: Imam al-Bukhari narrated it in the kunya section of "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" (9/8), Ibn Abi al-Dunya in "al-Manamat" (1), al-Dulabi in "al-Kuna wal-Asma'" (519), al-Hakim al-Tirmidhi in "Nawadir al-Usul" (918), Abu al-Shaykh in "al-Amthal" (314) and al-Bayhaqi in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (519), through various routes from Yahya bin Salih al-Wuhazi, with this same chain.
