Abu Salamah narrates that there was a dispute (over land) between Sayyiduna Sa'id bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) and the daughter of Arwa. Marwan said: Make peace between these two. We spoke to Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) about this, and he said: Do you think that I would reduce anything of her right, when I have heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever takes (unjustly) even a hand-span of land, on the Day of Resurrection a collar of the seven earths will be placed around his neck; whoever snatches someone's wealth by means of a (false) oath, it will not be blessed for him; and whoever takes as patrons (or allies) a people other than his own without their permission, upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels and all of mankind."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it with this wording.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is "jayyid" (good) on account of al-Harith bin Abd al-Rahman al-Amiri. Note / Clarification: Ibn Abi Dhi'b's full name is Muhammad bin Abd al-Rahman bin al-Mughirah al-Amiri. Reference / Source: Imam al-Bazzar narrated it in his Musnad (1258), Imam al-Tabari in the Musnad of Ali of "Tahdhib al-Athar" (268, 275, 321, 322) and Imam al-Shashi in his Musnad (222) by various routes of Uthman bin Umar with this same chain, both complete and in parts. Details of the narration: Al-Bazzar's wording is: "Whoever takes a people as his patrons without the permission of his masters, upon him is the curse of Allah..." and al-Tabari's wording is: "Whoever accepts becoming the client (mawla) of a people without the permission of his masters..." Al-Shashi's narration is similar. Important point: Both these meanings differ from the meaning of the narration given by al-Hakim. Reference / Source: Imam al-Tayalisi (234, 235, 237), Ibn Abi Shaybah (7/ 5 and 8/ 726), Imam Ahmad (3/ 1640, 1649), Abu Ya'la (955), al-Tabari (269, 323), al-Tahawi (Mushkil al-Athar: 2848-2850), al-Shashi (219) and Abu Nu'aym in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (3247) narrated this narration by various routes of Ibn Abi Dhi'b (Muhammad bin Abd al-Rahman al-Amiri) with this same chain, and there is disagreement in their wordings as well. 6/ 220. Reference / Source: In Sahih al-Bukhari (1870) and Sahih Muslim (1508) the wording of the hadith of Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) is: "Whoever takes a people as his patrons (wala') without the permission of his masters, upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels and all the people..." Note / Clarification: For further details see "Fath al-Bari" (6/ 220). Reference / Source: The first part of this hadith (concerning wrongful seizure of land) was narrated by Imam Ahmad (1633), al-Bukhari (3198) and Muslim (1610) by the route of Urwah bin al-Zubayr; by Imam Ahmad (1639), al-Bukhari (2452) and Ibn Hibban (3195, 5163) by the route of Abd al-Rahman bin Amr bin Sahl; and by Muslim by the routes of Abbas bin Sahl and Muhammad bin Zayd bin Abdullah. All four of these narrators transmit it from Sa'id bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him).
