Ibn Sirin narrates: We had supper with Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) on the roof of our house. Suddenly a star fell (a shooting star), and we began to watch it. He forbade us from that and said: Do not watch a star as it falls, for we used to be forbidden from that.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.
(20007). Grading: Its chain is sahih. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Here the narrator Ayyub refers to Ayyub al-Sakhtiyani, and Ibn Sirin refers to Muhammad bin Sirin. Reference / Source: This narration is found in "Jami' Ma'mar" (20007). Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (37/ 22549) narrated it by way of Hisham bin Hassan, via Muhammad bin Sirin. Note / Clarification: The word "inqadda" means: to fall or swoop down very quickly.
