This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts, the word "'an" has been distorted and written as "bin".

Grading: It is "hasan li-ghayrihi" on the basis of its supporting reports.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): There is no harm in the narrators of this chain. A group narrated from Kathir bin Abi Kathir and Imam Ibn Hibban mentioned him in "al-Thiqat"; however, he was contradicted regarding its chain. There is also disagreement in the chain from Hammam bin Yahya al-'Awdhi and from Qatadah bin Di'amah, as the details are coming ahead.
Important point: "Abu 'Iyad" in the chain refers to "'Amr bin al-Aswad al-'Ansi".
Details of the narration: 'Abd Allah bin Raja' al-Ghudani (as found with the author) related it with the chain Hammam bin Yahya, from Qatadah, from Kathir bin Abi Kathir, from Abu 'Iyad, from Abu Hurayrah, and placed it among the narrations (musnad) of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Bahz bin Asad and 'Affan bin Muslim contradicted 'Abd Allah bin Raja'. Both of them narrated it by way of Hammam, from Qatadah, from Kathir, from Abu 'Iyad, from "a Companion of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)" (instead of Abu Hurayrah).
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it in (24/ 15421).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Imam Shu'bah bin al-Hajjaj, contradicting Hammam bin Yahya, narrated it as "mursal" (without mention of the Companion) with the chain Qatadah, from Kathir, from Abu 'Iyad, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Reference / Source: Musaddad bin Musarhad narrated it in his "Musnad", as mentioned in al-Busiri's "Ithaf al-Khiyarah" (1/ 5461).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Muhammad bin Wasi' (who is a thiqah narrator) contradicted Kathir bin Abi Kathir. Hammad bin Salamah narrated from him, from Abu 'Iyad, as a saying of 'Ubayd bin 'Umayr (a Successor) with these words: "The boundary of shade and sun is the sitting place of Satan." Ibn Abi Shaybah (8/ 679) narrated it and this chain is sahih, but it is the own saying (mawquf) of 'Ubayd bin 'Umayr.
Details of the narration: Muhammad bin al-Munkadir also narrated it, but there is disagreement (among the narrators) in his chain too:
Grading: Marfu'.
Reference / Source: Sufyan bin 'Uyaynah narrated it from Muhammad bin al-Munkadir, from a person who heard Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him). Imam Abu Dawud (4821) narrated it through his route.
Grading: Marfu'.
Reference / Source: 'Abd al-Warith bin Sa'id narrated it as marfu' with the chain Muhammad bin al-Munkadir, from Abu Hurayrah; the intermediary is not mentioned in this chain. Imam Ahmad (14/ 8976) narrated it through his route.
Grading: Mawquf.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ma'mar bin Rashid and Isma'il bin Ibrahim bin Aban narrated it as mawquf from Muhammad bin al-Munkadir, from Abu Hurayrah; both of them also did not mention any intermediary in the chain.
Reference / Source: Both these narrations are found in "Jami' Ma'mar" (19799) and (19801).
Note / Clarification: We were unable to find a biography (tarjamah) of the narrator Isma'il bin Ibrahim bin Aban.
Reference / Source: Isma'il bin Muslim al-Makki narrated it with al-Bazzar (2014 - Kashf al-Astar), and Sufyan al-Thawri in Ibn 'Adi's "al-Kamil" (4/ 218).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Both of them related it as marfu' with the chain Muhammad bin al-Munkadir, from Jabir bin 'Abd Allah, making it part of the narrations (musnad) of Jabir. Isma'il al-Makki and the narrator from Sufyan al-Thawri, 'Abd Allah bin Muhammad bin al-Mughirah, are both weak.
Grading: Da'if (weak).
Reference / Source: Abu Nu'aym narrated it in "Tarikh Asbahan" (1/ 283 - 284) as marfu' with the chain Isma'il al-Makki, from Ibn Shihab al-Zuhri, from Abu Salamah bin 'Abd al-Rahman, from Abu Hurayrah, with these words: "The midday resting place of Satan is between the sun and the shade."
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Isma'il al-Makki is weak, as mentioned before; moreover, there are also some narrators in this chain who are unknown (majhul).
Note / Clarification: On this topic there is also a narration from Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him), which will come later with the author at no. (7907); see it there.
Grading: Mawquf (sahih).
Reference / Source: It is reported as mawquf from 'Abd Allah bin 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) with these words: "Sitting between the shade and the sun is the sitting place of Satan." Ibn Abi Shaybah (8/ 778) and Musaddad in his "Musnad" narrated it, as found in al-Busiri's "Ithaf al-Khiyarah" (5462), and its chain is sahih.
