Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7902

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a man who was lying on his stomach. He (peace and blessings be upon him) nudged him with his foot (as a signal) and said: "Indeed, this is a way of lying down that Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, does not love."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This narration is "hasan li-ghayrihi" on the basis of its supporting reports.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): All the narrators of this chain are thiqah (trustworthy) except Muhammad bin 'Amr bin 'Alqamah, who is truthful (saduq) and hasan in hadith, but he made a mistake in this chain by relating it by way of "from Abu Salamah, from Abu Hurayrah". For this reason Imam al-Bukhari said in "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" (4/ 366) that it is not sahih. Imam Abu Hatim said in "al-'Ilal" (2186) that the correct narration is that of al-Harith bin 'Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Dhubab: "Abu Salamah and I went in to Ibn Tihfah, and he narrated from his father."
Important point: This research makes it clear that this narration ultimately goes back to the previous hadith found with the author.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Imam al-Daraqutni said in "al-'Ilal" (1776) that Muhammad bin 'Amr bin 'Alqamah narrates it with the chain "from Abu Salamah, from Abu Hurayrah", whereas other narrators relate it with the chain "from Abu Salamah, from Ibn Tihfah al-Ghifari, from his father", and this (second chain) is correct.
Reference / Source: Imam Ibn Hibban (5549) narrated it by way of 'Abd Allah bin Muhammad al-Azdi, from Ishaq bin Ibrahim (Ibn Rahwayh), with this same chain.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Imam Ahmad (13/ 7862) and (8041) and Imam al-Tirmidhi (2768) through various routes with the chain of Muhammad bin 'Amr bin 'Alqamah.
Reference / Source: Imam al-Bukhari narrated it in "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" (4/ 366) and "al-Awsat" (621), and Ibrahim al-Harbi in "Ikram al-Dayf" (69), through the route of 'Abd al-'Aziz bin Muhammad al-Darawardi, from Muhammad bin 'Amr bin Halhalah, from Muhammad bin 'Amr bin 'Ata', from Abu Hurayrah.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Imam al-Bukhari said that the mention of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) in this chain is not sahih. Imam Abu Hatim said in "al-'Ilal" (2187) that it is actually with the chain Muhammad bin 'Amr, from Ibn Tikhfah, from his father. Ibrahim al-Harbi said about this narrator that he is "ghayr ma'ruf" (not known).
